Spam, spam, spam, spam...

As you may have noticed there has been a spate of spam postings on the forum recently. HippyDave and myself have been deleting the offending posts as soon as possible. We've been reluctant to introduce any form of forum member authentication in an attempt to keep the forum as free and open as possible but unfortunately the spam issue is not going away. This appears to be an issue for other websites which use SMF forums. I've now changed the way new members authenticate their accounts and we'll just see how things go.

Glad you've done this.  Unfortunately it's necessary with any type of discussion forum these days.

Adie (who's now back on wheels again and thankfully managed to delay his "exit attempt" from S Wales today until just after they'd reopened the M48 bridge!)

Typically, no sooner had we posted this than we were inundated with spam again! I've tightened the noose still further - I sincerely doubt anything will be getting through now! It is very frustrating to have to resort to these sort of measures as it just means more hoops for new members to jump through. At the end of the day, though, we have to safeguard the interests of our existing members first!

I'd just like to thank those who have alerted myself and Ian on various occasions when unsavoury material has made it here, so we could dispose of it in a timely fashion. Your vigilance is very much appreciated!

Phew - glad you made it back OK, Adie! The clips of the falling ice they showed on BBC news were more than a little worrying!
