Hi all,

As mentioned on The Gathering Light thread elsewhere we're into the very last stages of recording and adding 'the icing on the cake' parts. Troy Donockley recently recorded some beautiful Uillean pipes and various whistles and we're also now very pleased to welcome Hugh McDowell to the fray! Hugh has worked with ELO, Asia, Icon and is principal cellist with the European Festival Chamber Orchestra. Hugh is currently recording some cello parts and adding to the exisiting string arrangements.

On Wednesday we'll be recording a string quartet at Enrico's studio to complete the string parts. More details about that later in the week!

We now have a rough timetable of activities building up to the release. Recording should be finished soon as detailed above then there'll be a few days of pre-mix prep which is largely the task of exporting several hundred tracks of music ready for taking into the mixing studio and importing into their system. We have to take a short break for festival rehearsals and the gigs themselves before heading into the studio to mix around mid-August.

Mastering will follow shortly afterwards.

It's a very, very exciting time!

.... more news soon!

Ian

I've posted an update on the Karnataka thread about recording the string quartet last week. It was a great experience and very interesting to work with musicians from the classical world.

We're now starting to look at specific dates to move into a larger studio to mix and I'll keep you updated on where that will be. We're looking at a number of options at the moment.

Exciting!

Tomorrow night I will be wondering around a Welsh forest helping someone carry a lot of torches and a laptop! Sounds a bit dodgy! What has this got to do with the album I hear you ask? All will be revealed!!

Hi all,

Time for an update! Recording has finished....no really, it has! Enrico and myself have been working around the clock the past two weeks (with a break for Summer's End Festival) to transfer all the song multi-tracks from my studio to the mixing studio..... a major task! We'll be bringing you more updates soon.

This has been a hugely ambitious album to produce and for those of you who have wondered what is involved I hope to produce a more in-depth feature at some point to explain some of the recording processes and perhaps, in some ways, explain what it is that sets Karnataka's sound apart.

I can also now reveal that from the outset The Gathering Light has been recorded with surround sound in mind as a future release format. Most surround sound albums are released as an afterthought to the original stereo release but The Gathering Light has been recorded and produced from the outset with this in mind. Logistically this has made the process longer and we have also been pushing recording technology to the limit but the results are amazing. Again, I hope to expand on this in a future feature. There is no release date set yet for a surround release but of course we'll keep you posted.

Cheers

To everyone who has patiently waited!

The new website has now gone live and you will find some demo-mix samples from the forthcoming release The Gathering Light on the music page. You can also pre-order a signed, limited edition, gatefold digi-pak version of the album from the new on-line shop. This will not be available in the shops or by mail order anywhere else. The standard shop release version (jewel case not digi-pak) will be available from all good record shops and on-line retailers in Jan 2010.

Cheers!  Smiley

We're in the middle of mixing at Quadra Studios London with our very own Mr Enrico Pinna at the controls! Things are sounding great! We'll be announcing further details of the album mastering soon which will (hopefully!) have someone rather special adding the finishing touches!  Smiley

More soon.....

Exciting news! Mixing is finished and the album has just been mastered at Metrolpolis Studios London (one of the worlds premier mastering suites).

The album was mastered by Frank Arkwright - his cv includes working on U2's The Joshua Tree (whilst based at Pink Floyd's Britannia Row Studios) , Coldplay, Stereophonics..... :-)

We've been listening to the test mixes for a couple of days and will sign off the final master in the next few days ready for pressing!!!!!  Smiley
